Dominio del Challao is part of a new wave of Rioja producers focused on site expression and precision over traditional classification. Working with high-altitude vineyards in the cooler zones of Rioja, the project centres on Tempranillo alongside small amounts of indigenous varieties. Viticulture is thoughtful and low-intervention, with an emphasis on preserving the identity of each parcel. In the cellar, the approach moves away from heavy oak influence, favouring restrained élevage that supports rather than dominates the fruit. The wines are defined by freshness and clarity, showing red and dark berry fruit, subtle spice, and a fine mineral backbone. Tannins are polished, and the overall structure is balanced and elegant. Dominio del Challao reflects the evolving face of Rioja—wines that prioritise terroir, drinkability, and precision while maintaining a clear link to regional identity.
