2020 Massimo Rivetti Barolo
Produced from 100% Nebbiolo sourced from carefully selected vineyards within the Barolo appellation, this wine showcases the Rivetti family’s commitment to traditional Piedmontese winemaking and organic viticulture. While the family is best known for its holdings in Barbaresco, this Barolo offers a compelling expression of Nebbiolo from one of Italy’s most celebrated wine regions, combining structure, complexity and remarkable ageing potential.
The grapes are hand harvested and undergo a traditional fermentation with extended skin contact to maximise aromatic complexity, colour and tannin extraction. Following fermentation, the wine is matured for approximately 24 months in large Slavonian oak casks, followed by further bottle ageing prior to release. This classic approach allows Nebbiolo’s distinctive character to develop gradually while preserving the purity of fruit and expression of terroir.
The 2020 vintage opens with captivating aromas of rose petals, violets and wild cherry, layered with notes of red plum, liquorice, tobacco and sweet spice. As the wine evolves in the glass, more complex nuances of dried herbs, forest floor and truffle emerge. The palate is powerful yet beautifully balanced, combining concentrated red fruit with firm, finely woven tannins and vibrant acidity. Structured and persistent, it finishes long with savoury complexity and remarkable precision.
A classic expression of Barolo, this wine offers immediate enjoyment with decanting but possesses the depth and structure to reward long-term cellaring. An excellent match for braised beef, venison, wild mushrooms, truffle dishes and mature hard cheeses.
