Produced from 100% Nebbiolo grown in organically farmed vineyards in Neive, within the heart of the Langhe, “Avene” offers a youthful and approachable expression of Piedmont’s most noble grape variety. The wine takes its name from a historic vineyard parcel owned by the Rivetti family, where calcareous clay soils and elevated hillside sites contribute freshness, aromatic complexity and elegance. Crafted to highlight the purity of Nebbiolo fruit, it delivers many of the hallmarks of Barbaresco and Barolo in a more accessible style.
The grapes are hand harvested and undergo temperature-controlled fermentation with extended skin contact to gently extract colour, flavour and structure. Following fermentation, the wine is matured primarily in stainless steel, with a portion aged in large oak vessels to soften the tannins while preserving the vibrant fruit character and freshness that define the wine.
The 2023 vintage displays lifted aromas of rose petals, violet, red cherry and wild raspberry, complemented by hints of cranberry, dried herbs and sweet spice. The palate is bright and energetic, combining juicy red fruit with fine tannins and refreshing acidity. Elegant and finely balanced, it offers impressive depth and complexity while remaining approachable in its youth. Subtle earthy notes and a gentle mineral character emerge on the long, savoury finish.
