Based in San Vicente de la Sonsierra in Rioja Alta, Bodegas Contador produces flagship wines from old vineyards planted on limestone and clay slopes. Contador is sourced primarily from Tempranillo with small amounts of Graciano and Garnacha from selected parcels. Fermentation takes place in small oak vats and stainless steel tanks, followed by ageing in new French oak barrels. The outstanding 2010 vintage delivered depth, balance and ageing potential. Compared to Carmen Gran Reserva, Contador is richer and more concentrated, combining black cherry, cassis and spice with refined tannins and powerful yet balanced structure.
