Based in Oberloiben in the Wachau, Weingut F. X. Pichler produces Riesling from steep terraced vineyards along the Danube. Steinertal is a cooler site with rocky gneiss soils that emphasise precision and mineral character. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel and large oak casks followed by lees ageing to develop complexity while preserving freshness. As a Smaragd wine, it represents the richest dry style of the Wachau. Compared to the more powerful Kellerberg Riesling, Steinertal is more restrained and focused, showing citrus, green apple and herbal notes with strong mineral backbone and excellent ageing potential. https://www.fx-pichler.at
