2016 Weingut Leo Alzinger Grüner Veltliner Reserve
Based in Dürnstein in the Wachau, Weingut Leo Alzinger is known for precise, site-driven wines from steep Danube terraces. The Grüner Veltliner Reserve is sourced from selected older vines across top parcels, harvested at full ripeness. Soils are primarily gneiss with loess influence, giving both structure and breadth. This bottling sits outside the traditional Federspiel/Smaragd categories, representing a more concentrated selection. The cooler 2016 vintage was fermented partly in stainless steel and partly in large neutral oak, followed by extended lees ageing. Compared to the vineyard-designated Smaragd wines, the Reserve is broader and more textural, showing ripe pear, spice and layered depth with firm mineral structure and ageing potential. https://alzinger.at/
