Based in the Barolo village of Vergne, G. D. Vajra produces Kye from Freisa grown in the San Ponzio vineyard near the village of Barolo. The grape is a historic Piedmont variety closely related to Nebbiolo and planted on limestone-rich soils. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts followed by ageing in French oak barrels to develop depth and structure. The balanced 2019 vintage delivered ripe fruit and vibrant acidity. Compared with the estate’s Barbera wines, Kye shows firmer tannins and greater aromatic intensity, combining blackberry, violet and spice with long structured finish typical of traditional Freisa. https://www.vajra.it
