Located in the Hermitage appellation of the northern Rhône Valley, M. Chapoutier produces L’Orée from very old Marsanne vines grown on the Les Murets sector of the Hermitage hill. The vineyard’s limestone and clay soils contribute both concentration and aromatic finesse. Fermentation takes place in oak barrels followed by extended ageing on lees to enhance complexity and texture. The balanced 2012 vintage delivered both richness and precision. Compared with Le Méal, L’Orée typically shows greater elegance and aromatic lift, combining pear, honey and white flower notes with vibrant acidity and long mineral finish typical of old-vine Marsanne from Hermitage. https://www.chapoutier.com
