Based in Oberloiben in the Wachau, Weingut F. X. Pichler farms steep terraces overlooking the Danube River. Loibenberg is a warm hillside vineyard planted on weathered gneiss soils that produce powerful and expressive Grüner Veltliner. Grapes are harvested by hand and fermented in stainless steel and large oak casks before extended lees ageing. The Smaragd classification represents the richest dry style of the Wachau. The cooler 2021 vintage emphasised balance and precision. Compared with Kellerberg, Loibenberg shows slightly broader fruit expression, combining ripe pear, citrus and white pepper with layered texture and mineral depth.
